Experience the world's oldest known
alcoholic beverage: MEAD
The oldest confirmed sample of mead was discovered in an pottery vessel during the excavation of a village in China. It was made from honey and rice, and dates back to 7000 BCE, predating wine.
Mead was enjoyed by a wide range of cultures throughout history. From ancient civilizations like Greece and China to the Vikings and Celts, mead was a popular beverage, often consumed in both religious and celebratory contexts.
During Medieval Europe it was a common drink and household receipes from that era can still be found.
Mead is often called 'honey wine', being an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey mixed with water. However, mead definately deserves its own class.
Here at Ravenwood we hand craft our own small batch mead as authentically as possible, using our own techniques to ensure the yeast is never rushed or stressed, therefore very few chemicals are used during production. Our meads are unfiltered, and served at room temperature to maximize the flavor of the honey.
Step out of the every day world and into our Nordic themed tasting room to be transported back in time and taste a little bit of history.

We are very proud to have this lineup of meads that we make from Norwegian ale house kveik yeasts purchased from Kveik Yeastery. Each yeast originates from a different farm, bringing with them very different taste profiles. Although all these meads are ale forward, remember, they are not beer! These meads are usually available year round.

We make small 5 gallon batches of a special line of meads we call BEE KEEPER. Here we utilize honey from small local apiaries in order to support and showcase them without requiring a large volume of honey from them. These traditional meads also highlight how very different a mead can turn out by using honeys from different areas.
Each mead is named after the bee keeper we purchased the honey from.
These batches take longer to make than our House, and we bring them out as they come to fruition.
Coming up mid-June: KEITH FLETCHER
Coming up August: BILL'S HONEY and RAY EASTON
